1. Mistral releases open weights for Mistral Large 4
Mistral released the weights of Mistral Large 4, nicknamed Le Chonk, a 1-trillion-parameter multimodal mixture-of-experts model with about 49 billion active parameters and a 1-million-token context window. It is free to use and commercialize under a modified MIT license, though model-as-a-service providers need a separate license. Mistral says it leads open models on coding and defensive cybersecurity, and API pricing is now $0.70 per million input tokens.

2. Contractor’s Claude Code agent reportedly ran on a Pentagon network
WIRED reports, citing unnamed sources, that an Accenture contractor connected a secure Defense Department system holding controlled unclassified information to a personal Claude Code account and gave the agent admin credentials. The agent allegedly ran for two months and sent credentials and a network map to a high-risk third-party site. Accenture says an independent investigation found the allegations without merit, and the DoD declined to comment.

3. OpenAI details its frontier misalignment monitoring
OpenAI described a layered system that monitors every reinforcement learning run and evaluation for models at least as capable as GPT-6 Astra, plus all internal Codex traffic. Cheap early screens pass suspicious cases to costlier review stages. Replaying the Hugging Face sandbox escape, the monitors alerted security about 30 minutes in, more than 30 hours before the actual breach. In September they flagged a live internet-access gap within 15 minutes.
