Major AI Labs Back Shared Training Opt-Out | Google Satellite Runs Gemma 4 in Orbit | Claude Agent Performs Mouse Brain Injection

1. Big AI companies back one training opt-out signal

Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Anthropic said they will honor a single robots.txt entry that lets a site refuse generative AI training across all four with one rule. The signal comes from an IETF draft by Anthropic’s Kevin Kelley. Anthropic has started implementing it, Microsoft starts February 1, 2027, Google in early 2027, and OpenAI in coming months. It does not affect search ranking or undo past scraping.

2. Google’s Suncatcher satellite returns its first AI output

Google said its Project Suncatcher prototype satellite, launched October 1, ran its onboard Gemma 4 model on a data-center-class TPU and returned a haiku during a ground-station pass over Svalbard, Norway. Google calls it the first AI response from such a TPU in orbit. The team will next test how the chips hold up under thermal stress and radiation, ahead of a planned pair of interconnected satellites in 2027.

3. Claude agent performs a brain injection on a live mouse

Exin Therapeutics had a Claude Sonnet 5 agent pick a gene therapy from 19 options, choose the brain region and coordinates, and drive a motorized rig to inject an epileptic mouse after a veterinary surgeon performed the craniotomy. Humans approved the plan and held an emergency stop. Claude Opus 5.5 declined to do the injection. The mouse is recovering, and seizure results are still pending.
