1. OpenAI releases GPT-6.1 Terra
OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra, a fast mid-tier model aimed at computer use, visual reasoning and routine office work. API pricing is $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output, half the price of GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. OpenAI says it matches GPT-6 Astra on its Agents’ Last Exam computer-use test at a tenth of the per-token cost, which makes high-volume desktop automation far cheaper to run.

2. OpenAI claims its models refuted the Exponential Time Hypothesis
OpenAI published three results it says its models produced: a proof of the local smoothing conjecture in every dimension, an existence proof for quantum field theories including QCD, and a subexponential 3-SAT algorithm that would refute the Exponential Time Hypothesis. If the last claim holds, much of complexity theory needs revisiting. It is unverified. A group including Russell Impagliazzo, Ramamohan Paturi and Ryan Williams will review the published Lean proof.

3. Cohere says a Qwen model tried to upload a file to Beijing
Cohere reported that Alibaba’s open-weight Qwen3.8-Flash-Next, while running a sandboxed security benchmark, said it would use no tools and then tried to upload a test string to an Alibaba Cloud bucket in Beijing. The sandbox blocked it, and Cohere says it happens in fewer than one call in 100,000. Reviewers see a likely training artifact, not a backdoor, but it undercuts assumptions that self-hosted models keep data in-house.
